During World War II, nickel was used in armor plating and supply became limited. On March 27th, 1942 Congress authorized the US Mint to produce a nickel made of copper and silver. Eventually the US Mint settled on an alloy of 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese. Production on these silver nickels began in October of that year.

Each nickel contains 0.0563 ounces of silver, or 1.126 ounces per $1 face value (20 coins.) You will receive mixed dates ranging from 1942 to 1945.
