Following a coin shortage, the Coinage Act of 1965 reduced the silver in half dollars from 90% to 40%. By 1970, all silver had been removed from half dollars. Before 1965, half dollars minted by the United States Mint contained 90% silver. As the price of silver rose, the value of silver half dollars surpassed it's face value of 50 cents and people began hoarding them as an investment in silver. Today, "coin roll hunters" still look through circulating change to try and find any pieces that have not yet made it into individual's collections.

Each unit contains 2 silver half dollars and a total of 0.715 troy ounces of silver. As these coins were once used as general currency, they are in circulated condition. This unit contains Franklin Half Dollars. Please see our other products for Kennedy and Walking Liberty half dollars.
